12th Annual Sherlock’s Golf Tournament (Tuesday, August 4th, 2009 )
Benefiting the African American Golf Foundation
Greetings Golfers and Friends,

TournamentAttached you will find the information pertaining to the 12th Annual Sherlock’s Golf Tournament. We continue to be extremely proud of and grateful to Sherlock’s for all they do in preparing for and hosting this annual event. Over the past years, Sherlock’s has raised more than $58,000 for the African American Golf Foundation (AAGF), Inc. Because this is a fun event and everyone has a great time, the event usually fills quickly. If you cannot attend, you can still make an important tax-deductible contribution to AAGF.

Throughout Metropolitan Atlanta, there are many under-served youth. These youth often lack positive guidance and have few alternatives from the streets. Their communities are often plagued with drugs, gangs and violence. These youth are statistically inclined to get in trouble with the law, engage in risky, adolescent behaviors, and be poor academic achievers.

Over the past 21 years, the African American Golf Foundation, Inc. (AAGF), a local, tax-exempt, non-profit organization has endeavored to change these odds. AAGF provides youth with positive alternatives, such as after-school programs, junior golf clinics, and summer programs. We endeavor to empower youth with the necessary educational and social development skills, using golf as a “medium”. Our goal is to help our youth achieve their maximum potential and become productive citizens.

For more than 4 years AAGF has been diligently building relationships and meeting with the Osborne Drug Free Coalition (a coalition of schools and service providers serving 10 schools) and working with school officials in the Cobb County and Marietta districts. Recently, we were given a written letter of support from Cobb County Schools, expressing their willingness to work with AAGF in implementing the “On the Right Course Program” (OTRCP) at selected schools. Now, we have our first endorsement to make Cobb County’s program a huge success.

Golf is an individual, lifetime sport that instills values, patience, and perseverance. We combine the sport of golf with tutoring and academic enrichment as well as conflict resolution, leadership, and prevention skills. I need your help to continue our programs. This is an opportunity for you to help support our organization and to come join me at the 11th Annual Sherlock’s Golf Tournament.

Please make a tax-deductible contribution today (EIN is 58-2018617) and allow AAGF to continue to help our youth realize their potential. Your contribution will make a difference and will go directly toward program support. If you need any additional information about our organization, please feel free to contact me at (770) 431-4865. Thankfully yours,
Edward Oden, Jr.
